Reuniting friends

Painting with oil. When I got back to Stockholm and Sweden (after 5 month away this time), I was meeting up with a good friend of mine and we decided to go out in the nature to paint paintings. My friend is a great painting artist who have made probably about 40-50 paintings. But he doesn’t want me to write about, or link to his paintings just yet. I hope he will agree on that at another occasion. His paintings makes mine look like jokes. But I suppose that is what they are.

New to painting with oil

I have mostly been painting with acrylic paint so far and now we were to do some painting with oil, which is what he normally does. I must say that the quality and difference is pulpable. When you are painting with oil, you seem to be able to do so much more and it becomes so much better. But it takes some time for the paint to dry of course. And it is a different technique, which probably is worth learning.

Painting live

This was what we jokingly call a “live painting”, meaning that we were outdoors, painting with oil, the view which we had in front of us. I have done a few paintings like that before in acrylic (while I was at sea). But Painting with oil it is so much more fun. This time we went down to the water by Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm. We painted the water, the grass and the sky. Simple stuff. But most of all it was a lovely afternoon in company of each other.

We were painting with oil on some pieces of wood. I skipped paintinng the buildings. It would require to much detail work and concentration. And I made a kind of sky which I knew how to paint. The sky and light was ever changing this afternoon. That’s how it’s like to paint live. Maybe I’ll continue improving it next time I am here. I am already looking forward to be painting with oil again.
