Writing is something which I have been engaged in on and off for many years now. Maybe most part of my life. And so is traveling. Almost about one year ago, as I had been traveling and writing fictional short stories in Asia for a while. I once ended up on a boat, on a passage over the South Chinese Sea. A passage that would take me about ten days over open water. I decided to write something new and simple. Maybe try out to write non-fiction this time? I started to write a little ebook during the night watches as I was driving the boat. I was looking out at the horizon and steering the ship in between the moments of typing. I wanted to write something short and easy that I could publish. And I wanted to try to pick a topic which I had a decent amount of experience from. I wanted to know what I was saying. So I picked “traveling”. And just to keep it simple I decided to write a kind of an informative non-fiction type of book with some of my own anecdotes from traveling mixed in. I started to write something which was mainly focused towards a younger crowd that might want to start traveling. And I picked the title “How to travel”. I thought it was a funny title since nowadays everybody travels to some extent and everyone knows how to do it. It is just such a natural part of us as human beings. But what is actually traveling?

This is a good read if you haven’t traveled that much before and if you would like to have some advice on how to go about it. Or if you have traveled a fair bit (or a lot) and just would like to read another travelers point of view on his traveling lifestyle. In fact it is also a great book for all the great travelers out there. The book might seem to give a little bit of a simple and obvious impression to begin with, with all the instructions and definitions on traveling. But towards the mid and later part of this book it gets a little bit more thoughtful. This makes me want to say that you can probably enjoy this read even if you already know very well what traveling is all about. But also if you have no idea about it and are excited about learning how to travel. This is a book you should be able to enjoy spontaneously over an evening with a cup of tea, perhaps when you are out traveling or when you are sitting at home waiting to be able to go out and start traveling. Don’t worry, it is a short and simple read (about 119 pages on a kindle, equivalent to maybe 30-40 A4 pages).

I call it a simple handbook where I share my thoughts on what traveling is all about and it is based on my own experiences, so if you want a little interesting read about another travelers view on what traveling is and how it shapes you. This is a non-fiction mix of handy advices, anecdots, explanations of different ways of traveling and some thoughts about what it is. So what is traveling? Essentially we are all travelers to some extent. Even if it might just be slow and steady in one direction, into the future. Through time, which is our only forever limited resource. Which we all need to enjoy! It is the matter of living life.
