Then she starts to dance. It is in this last and third act of this film where a lot of the action happens. When I first got all the footage back from Nirmal, he had already started to edit it. He had started to cut together some parts of it with a video editing app on his phone. I really appreciate that he had done that. It made it easier for me to dive in to it with a little bit of prep work done. But it was not that much done yet. At parts of it there were some watermark in the corner which we had to cover up with some effects. But for example this scene when the girl is dancing, wasn’t at all cut down that much yet. It was more that all the shots were pasted together, not so much selected yet.

The dancing scene was actually almost 5 minutes or something like that of when she was just dancing. And the dance wasn’t good enough to be entertaining for that long. Both me and Nirmal could understand that. But for some reason it was difficult to cut it down. What pieces to save. The camera angles wasn’t very appealing either. But we had to keep some of it. It was difficult to choose which parts to keep. The goal here was to actually get a finished film at all. And we didn’t have much to work with. Circumstances when we shot this was all shit. The good thing was that it was meant to look like Nirmal, who is playing the cameraman, was filming her dancing. So the fact that the camera was moving around made perfect sense when the next we see in the film is the cameraman not being able to hold the camera properly. He is dancing around and flirting with the girl. So I just put on a filter that made it look like a camera lens. Not much more to say about that scene. I think it was quite ok when we filmed the phone screen as a camera also. It was just a pitty that the camera lens filter thingy, I put on didn’t look like it does on an iphone.

Then the phone beeps and Foreigner receives a text message from the bank saying “Your check has bounced. Sorry for the inconvenience”. The only funny thing here is that we renamed Nirmals name for his number in the phone book on my phone to “Bank”. So you can tell that the message is from the bank.

Now the foreigner realizes that he have been scammed and there is a series of short clips flashing by in a different color grading, as it is from his memory. It is the different parts where it is the most obvious that the camera man is a scammer. Then the Foreigner looks at the producer who is sitting in the corner, rubbing his head in a weird way as he is licking his lips and moans (that is a really weird thing). The Foreigner get furious and screams out “Kya Kar Rahe Ho?! (what are you doing?!), in Hindi. Followed with “What the *beep* are you doing?!. (Yes it is also weird that he is saying the same thing in two different languages like that. But I found it funny. And yes, I was actually screaming and swearing when we shot it. And yes it was ackward. The censur is done in editing. The next thing that happens is that the Foreigner pulls his hair. He gets so furious and frustrated of the situation so he pulls off his own hair. This is a funny scene. I actually went to the hair dresser and asked the hairdresser to save my hair for me to bring in a little plastic bag. Then we used it as props. It was a weird thing to do. But somehow quite creative, I think.

Then there is a face punch coming up. The foreigner slaps the camera man in the face so that he flies to the ground. (The sound effect used is the sound of when hitting a golf ball). The angle was totally wrong, you could easily see that he misses. But I increased the pase in editing and it doesn’t get any better then that with that shot. Could have been done a lot better from the beginning. And then the Foreigner is going to grab him as he is laying down, to beat him up even more. And when he leans over he sees that the producer is looking at an image of a girl in a bra on his phone. Funny comic sound effects. That is why. He is rubbing his head and moaning there in the corner. When we shot this I noticed how difficult it is to act and make this small movements and behave clear on camera. I obviously couldn’t do it very well, of course. Because I have never done any acting before. But I figured that I have to allow myself to overact and do it like in slow motion. Because then I could speed up the tempo of the film afterwards. I don’t think this is how professionals do it, but it seemed easier for me.

The camera man then pushes the foreigner away and the producer and the camera man escapes from the set. I remember how I was showing them how I would like them to almost crawl out from the room on top of each other. It was difficult to make it look funny. But it was ok. The foreigner hits the wall and an animated generator starts which symbolizes something like that he is losing his mind or something. It is sound effects and it is all cartoonish. This part was something which was not at all planned. I came up with the idea when I was editing it. There is like a comic book page with random images from parts of the film. Then comes the cats!
