Soon I left my home country again to go out traveling. This time my destination was Egypt. Sharm El Sheikh to be more precise. A diving paradise out on Sinai Peninsula, a half island by the Red Sea. Here the water is so clear that you can see the bottom of the ocean through at least 50 meters (ok I don’t know really but that’s my impression at least). Maybe the clearest water I’ve ever seen. It is known as one of the best diving locations in the world. Everything is about the ocean here. You see diving and snorkeling shops everywhere and the beaches are great (well, they’re ok. At least there is a lot of sand in this country). In Sharm El Sheikh there are lots of resorts, good hotels and the service is great (well ok, at least they are trying hard). Sharm as a place is really quite small and it is all about the tourism here. I came at the end of the season, so I didn’t get to see how much tourists it actually is here at the high season. I can imagine it is pretty packed.

Apart from the diving and the water activities, which I guess the place is best known for. Here is also lots of nice restaurants and the night market had at least something to offer. The people working here are mostly seasonal workers coming from Cairo, as it seems. They were all very nice but they are really trying to sell their products so make sure you actually want the things that you are buying. It is easy to end up with too much things. I had to be tough with some of them. To negotiate about the price with this people can really take you from anywhere to… anywhere. They have no standard price what so ever. It is intense! They are just totally trying to over-charge you, without any shame.

I visited two of the town/villages which is a part of Sharm. They were both really nice and both of them offered a lot of restaurants and small shops. It seems like the evening is the time to see the towns/villages and the day time is for the water activities. The taxi drivers will sound the horn and stop next to you as you are walking and ask a few times where they can take you. Or just shout “taxi! Taxi! Taxi!” And it is the same thing regarding the price negotiation with the taxi drivers as with the shop owners. It’s like a joke. One of these towns/villages also have a quite an impressive and beautiful Mosque.
