I am looking forward to getting back to those moments when you wake up in the morning, full of excitement about the project you are working on. You are going straight to the painting where you left it last night, picking up the pencil and starting the day with painting for a couple of hours, even before you’ve had breakfast. Priority is to allow yourself to be creative and artistic when you are in these moments. Those kind of moments we can have not only with painting but also with music production, video making or writing for example. To talk about some of the activities I enjoy the most myself. It comes in waves and it brings you flow. It is an artistic flow to get effort and efficiency into your work. The work you do for passion. Not for money, but for something beyond survival. A creative flow is a mental state when you are being completely present and fully immersed in the creative task you are working with. When you are in a flow, you as a creator becomes one with the universe and the creation you are working with. Any external disturbance becomes powerless and the creators consciousness is fully open and tuned in with his artistic activity. This is when artistry can be at its best. When you reach this state you shall preserve it as good as you can. Enjoy it and be grateful. You never know when it will come again. When this state occurs you often find yourself quite surprised about it. Likely because it most often comes when you have low expectations on your creative work and productivity. People say that there are certain things that may help you to get into an artistic flow. But you will never get in to as good artistic flow if you are expecting it to come, as when you are not. Sure you are more likely to reach it if you have an alert brain. Which the best way to preserve, is in a healthy way. Exercise your brain and body, eat healthy, drink lots of water. Observe a lot of what you experience. Take in the world. Take in the room. Be in the moment. Appreciate now. Meditate. Listen to sounds. Practice focusing and concentrating. Maybe with the help of some brain games. Read a book. Practice what it is you want to have flow within. If you want to achieve flow within painting. Let’s make a painting. The more time you spend doing that, the more likely it is that you get flow when you are doing it. No matter if the creative process is painting, writing, music making, video making etc. The times with artistic flow is worth all the effort and time it takes without it.
