Another one of the “black-on-white” faces I painted was a portrait of Edith Piaf. This face I remember choosing to paint because my girlfriend at the time, was playing some music on the stereo by Edith Piaf one morning on a weekend when I was waking up. A French singer-songwriter and actress who were active around the second world war era. Not the girlfriend but the women of the face I were to be painting. The style of music undoubtfully puts your mind in that kind of time and environment. The fourties, a romanticized picture of war. Waking up to this was unexpected and I appreciated itStarting the day by painting this and then give it to a loved one, is still a great memory. The purple around the hair was the final touch. Remembering that I regretted doing that at the time. But it is always a lot of regrets related to doing such a thing as making a painting. Why would you even do that in the first place? Looking at it now, I think it turned out alright anyway and I hope she still have it.
