Yesterday I was out for a nice walk on my own and stopped by to fly my drone in a small park. This was in the middle of the afternoon with lots of people were around in an area I have never been in before. I have had a problem with the camera recently so I mostly wanted to check that everything was working now and also take the opportunity to see what the view was like on this location from up there. There was a message showing up on the screen when I launched the drone. It was something about a restricted area and to be flying on your own risk or something like that. So at first the drone wouldn’t go higher than 20m. Of course I just tried to get around that problem by going up and down a couple of times but driving with caution. I just wanted to get over the height of the buildings so that I could see the view and do a quick recording.

I felt that the drone were not maneuvering as I was steering it at one occasion. It dropped some height, then it went backwards a little to disappear a little bit behind a tree for a while, but then I could drive it again. This weird, unwanted maneuvering happened pretty much just after I started the recording and the recording wasn’t running smooth either. But as soon as I came over the buildings I noticed that the view was good and decides to just come forward a little bit and tilt the camera forward for a moment to localize myself in the camera view from up there So I would recognize my starting point for when I was going to come back. Now my intentions was that I was gonna go for a cruise over the buildings and hope for some stunning footage with forward movement. I was lucky the following event didn’t happen a little later when the drone over the buildings. At the moment when I was tilting down the camera to make sure I would recognize my position on the ground. The drone started to fall. I don’t remember If I was looking on the screen or on the drone when this happened. But it started to fall and it was falling much faster than I thought it ever would. It didn’t just slowy crash land or lost some height or something like that. No, It was just getting thrown right down in the asphalt street with aloud smashing noise from maybe about 20 meter. The camera was on but it stopped recording at the moment the drone touched some part of a tree about five meter from the ground. But this didn’t slow down the falling speed, just stopped the camera. I ran to the drone which just crashed and surprisingly enough it was still on. The camera lens was making moment as I picked it up. I turned it off, packed it away and went home. The following day I was going to try it again. First thing it was asking for a software update which I downloaded straight away. After this the drone wanted its compass to be calibrated. I tried it a few times without any luck. But it could have been interference at the location in the apartment where I was trying this calibration. It could be magnetic field or something. So I went outside to calibrate it somewhere ells and it worked just fine straight away. I started and launched it for a quick hover on about one meter for a few seconds and it looked stable. So far I haven’t noticed that it would be harmed in any way except from some scratches and a crack in a propeller blade. So I am pretty happily surprised. So now we know that a drone all of sudden can fall out of the sky, which could be problematic. It could easily break or get lost. But it is nice to see that you can be lucky also and the quality of the product can actually survive a fall from about over 20 meter or something. I wonder what happend. Any ideas?
